What is the APA Citation Format?

Here are some of the basics that you need to get started:

  • Everything is double-spaced.
  • There are no extra blank lines between headings and the text that follows, since it’s already all double-spaced.
  • The headings for all sections, besides the title page, are centered and bolded at the top of a new, fresh page.
  • The APA style title page title page has its own special formatting requirements with different elements for different purposes (students vs. professionals), unlike the other main sections, which are easy and always the same.
  • Page headings are done in bold but never underlined or italicized.
  • Page numbers go in the top right corner of your pages.
  • Font must be consistent throughout and easy to read, but there is no one font mandated.

APA Citation Generator FAQs

An APA citation generator is a tool that creates APA-style citations for you, which simplifies the process of citing sources.

APA style requires authors to cite sources both in the text and in the reference list. The in-text citation includes only partial information, just enough to lead the reader to the more detailed reference list entry.

All you need to do is type or paste some information about a source into the search box (depending on the type of source), and the Citation Generator will construct a correctly formatted citation for you. Then you can click on the citation to edit it if you need to.

You can choose between APA 7th edition, which is the latest version of the manual, or APA 6th edition, which is still in use at many universities.
