At Quillbot, we use technology to help millions of people around the world turn the spark of an idea into shared understanding and to translate meaning across mediums. Our AI-powered tools make the path from inspiration to execution more accessible, intentional, and relevant—wherever and however you want to express yourself.

2017

Born in a college dorm

Anil Jason wanted to create a tool that could help ELL students with writing. After enlisting his friends—Rohan Gupta and David Silin—they created Quillbot’s Paraphraser.

2018

Sparks start to fly

Quillbot almost immediately went viral on Reddit. Soon after, the trio entered into UIUC’s iVenture Accelerator, and won initial funding.

2019

Boots on the ground

Based out of a small office in Chicago and running on donuts, the founders worked tirelessly to get Quillbot to its first major milestone: one million users.

2021

Joining forces

Quillbot’s suite of tools expanded with the success of the Grammar Checker, and as the company continued to grow, it became part of Learneo (previously Course Hero), a platform focused on productivity and learning.

2023

Going global

Following the 2022 acquisition of Dutch start-up

Scribbr

, Learneo brings

LanguageTool

into the family. This newly formed writing vertical helped over 56 million monthly active users write without limits.

A new era for Quillbot

Under CEO Andrew Grauer, Quillbot has expanded beyond writing with audio, image, and search tools and continues to expand, ensuring that wherever ideas take shape, Quillbot helps bring them to life.
