There are very few words that start with X in Spanish. Most of the Spanish words that start with X have Greek origins, were adopted through Nahuatl and other indigenous languages, or are loanwords.

Note
Most Spanish adjectives change their endings to agree with the gender of the nouns they modify. That’s why you use “xerofítico” when describing a masculine noun but “xerofítica” when describing a feminine one. Some adjectives, like “xicaque,” don’t change.

Likewise you might notice that the adjective “xicaque,” which refers to a group of people, doesn’t use a capital X. This is because most proper adjectives in Spanish are not capitalized like in English (in which the word would be “Jicaque” with a capital J).
