The Future of QuillBot

Hey guys,

So this is our first official blog post. We have been around for about 10 months now, and we think its time that we express a coherent vision for the future of this technology.

We have been engaging in heavy research and development these last few months, spearheaded by our new CTO, Dave Silin. We are confident that we can now take this technology to innovative and interesting places.

Baseline Paraphraser
The new paraphrasing tool in R&D will be able to consistently restructure sentences in a way that has been unseen before. It can engage in more aggressive permutations, and the degree to which it will change sentences will be entirely controlled by the user. In addition to this, the paraphrases will be more reliable. Our end goal is to achieve the proficiency of a human-level paraphraser.

Grammar Correction
Our new models in R&D have shown high proficiency in grammar and fluency correction. So much so, that we are considering taking a pivot into the grammar market. Due to the nature of machine learning, we are unable to explain grammatical mistakes--only fix them. Down the road, we want to be the first end-to-end fluency & grammar checker, one where users don't need to think or double check the AI. The user will simply put in an article and QuillBot will improve the quality of their writing and grammar automatically.

Adaptive Paraphrasing
We are developing technology that will enable users to paraphrase sentences in certain linguistic styles. For example, if you have a normal sentence, QuillBot will be able to rewrite it in Old English or slang; make it more sophisticated or simpler.
